City Of Lakeland issued the following announcement on Feb. 14.
Happy Valentine's Day, Lakeland!
Here is a lovely Valentine’s Day fact about Lakeland’s very own elegant “mascot”. Mute swans form the classic image of devotion, with their curved necks entwined in a perfect love heart. It's part of a courtship ritual, in which pairs face each other and, with a ruffle of feathers and lifted wings, bow gracefully. But did you know that swans are well known for forming pair bonds?
They choose their lifelong mate and stay by their side. There are many bonded pairs of swans residing at Lake Morton, and you may be lucky enough to witness these “love birds” doing their courtship dance.
