Congressman Scott Franklin, who represents Florida’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a range of topics on his social media account, including government funding debates, local educational partnerships, and baseball history in his district.
On October 20, 2025, Franklin criticized Senate Democrats for their actions regarding a House-passed funding bill. He stated: "Senate Democrats’ continued filibuster of the House-passed funding bill is prolonging needless harm to our servicemembers, families and taxpayers. It’s time to put an end to the games and reopen the government." He also encouraged readers to view his op-ed in DC Reporter for further details.
The following day, October 21, Franklin highlighted a new collaboration between Florida Polytechnic University and cybersecurity firm Sittadel. In his words: "Florida Polytechnic University’s new partnership with cybersecurity firm Sittadel is an investment in workforce development and innovation. This collaboration will help train the next generation of cyber professionals and strengthen Florida’s tech future."
Later that same day, Franklin drew attention to the rich baseball heritage of Avon Park’s Main Street in his district: "FL-18 has some serious baseball history! Avon Park’s Main Street celebrates hometown greats like Hal McRae, Nick Gordon, Tom “Flash” Gordon and Dee Strange-Gordon.
Fun Fact: Legends like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig once played here during spring training."
Franklin has represented Florida's 18th District since 2021 after succeeding Ross Spano. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Thomaston, Georgia in 1964 and now residing in Lakeland at age 58, Franklin graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a BA in 1986 and later from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University.
