Congressman Scott Franklin, representing Florida's 18th district, has announced his support for H.R. 22, also known as the SAVE Act. This legislation, which advances with a 220-208 vote in the House of Representatives, aims to enhance the security and integrity of federal elections in the United States.
Franklin emphasizes the importance of maintaining free, fair, and secure elections, asserting that they are fundamental to the democratic system in the U.S. "Free, fair and secure elections are the cornerstone of our democratic republic. Every American should have confidence their vote counts AND that elections are free from undue influence. That starts with ensuring only American citizens vote in American elections."
A significant issue the SAVE Act addresses is the presence of noncitizens on voter rolls, which Franklin points to as a consequence of "inadequate safeguards" in certain states. The proposed legislation mandates that states verify citizenship status when registering individuals for federal elections. Franklin underscores the bipartisan nature of this initiative, stating, "This isn’t a partisan issue - it’s a needed step that protects the voice of every lawful voter."
With the House's approval of the SAVE Act, Franklin is now calling on the Senate to pass the bill, urging its finalization with the President's signature. "I urge the Senate to pass this bill and send it to the president’s desk."
