The Congressman, who succeeded Ross Spano and has a background in both the U.S. Congress and the Florida House of Representatives, utilized his platform to honor law enforcement officers, acknowledge military personnel, and discuss concerns regarding veterans' affairs.
On May 16, 2025, Congressman Franklin paid tribute to law enforcement officers during National Police Week. He honored a Polk County Sheriff's deputy and a Bartow Police officer who had been shot while on duty. Franklin expressed gratitude for their courage by speaking on the House Floor to recognize them and all service members for their bravery and sacrifice. "During National Police Week, I honored a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy and Bartow Police officer who were shot in the line of duty and showed immense courage in a time of crisis. I spoke on the House Floor to thank them - and all who serve - for their bravery and sacrifice."
On May 17, 2025, Franklin extended his appreciation towards military personnel through another post. He commended those serving in uniform for their dedication to protecting national freedom. His message acknowledged the essential role these individuals play in maintaining America's strength. "We salute the brave men and women who wear our nation’s uniform with honor. Your unwavering commitment and sacrifice are the backbone of our freedom. Thank you for standing watch so America can stand tall."
Later that day, Franklin addressed issues related to veterans' affairs during a Military Construction-VA hearing with @SecVetAffairs at @HouseAppropsGOP. He raised concerns about wastefulness in VA clinical trials along with insufficient oversight within the department that may shield bad actors from accountability. He emphasized his appreciation for efforts toward transparency as veterans deserve better management practices."Grateful to @SecVetAffairs for joining our @HouseAppropsGOP MilConVA hearing. Scott Franklin was born in Thomaston, Georgia in 1964 but now resides in Lakeland; he is an alumnus of both United States Naval Academy (BA) class '86 & Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University ('94).
