Kenneth Jerome Riley died June 7, 2020

Kenneth Jerome Riley, who grew up in Bartow, Florida, died on June 7, 2020, at age 72. He spent his entire 15-year professional football career with the Cincinnati Bengals, from 1969 to 1983, recording 65 interceptions—a figure that ranked fourth in NFL history at his retirement. Known for steady performance rather than broad popularity, Riley was never selected for the Pro Bowl but earned three All-Pro honors. After his playing days, he coached and served as athletic director at Florida A&M University. Riley’s connection to Bartow remained strong as he lived there in retirement. In 2023, he was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, recognizing his lasting impact on the sport. His legacy in Bartow and beyond includes both his athletic achievements and his contributions to football education and leadership.
