Congressman Scott Franklin of Florida’s 18th district released a statement following the announcement of a ceasefire and hostage–prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas. The agreement comes near the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks by Hamas.
Franklin stated, “The Israel–Hamas ceasefire and hostage agreement is a critical step toward peace through strength, coming on the heels of the second anniversary of Hamas’s brutal October 7 attacks. Israel has shown resilience and an unwavering commitment to defend its people in the face of constant threats. This agreement offers a chance to protect innocent lives while maintaining the strength and vigilance required to deter future aggression. Every hostage must be returned and every act of terror must be met with accountability. True peace will only come when Hamas is disarmed and no longer able to threaten the people of Israel."
He also expressed appreciation for former President Donald Trump’s role in facilitating the agreement: “I want to thank President Donald Trump and his Administration for their decisive leadership in helping secure this agreement. It took determination and clarity of purpose to bring opposing sides to the table and achieve results at a time when tensions reached a fever pitch. America must continue to stand firmly with Israel, ensure the deal is fully enforced and make certain that humanitarian aid reaches civilians, not the terrorists who caused this suffering.”
Franklin has represented Florida’s 18th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Ross Spano. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Thomaston, Georgia, Franklin is 58 years old and resides in Lakeland. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1986 and later earned another degree from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University.
