Congressman Scott Franklin, who represents Florida’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress, announced that he will not accept his congressional salary during the ongoing government shutdown. The decision comes as federal workers, military personnel, and other government employees face uncertainty over pay.

Franklin stated, “While my team and I continue serving our constituents throughout this ordeal, I will not accept pay when our troops, federal workers, and my own teammates are providing essential government services without compensation.” He added, “The House has done its duty by passing a clean continuing resolution to keep the government open. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats and every Democrat in the Florida delegation are willing to let Americans suffer, using them as leverage for political gain. We cannot afford to play these games with the livelihoods of hardworking Americans.”

Franklin also emphasized that his office remains fully operational to assist constituents during the shutdown.

Scott Franklin has represented Florida’s 18th district since 2021 after succeeding Ross Spano. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives and was born in Thomaston, Georgia in 1964. Franklin lives in Lakeland and is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University.
