City of Haines issued the following announcement on Nov. 19

A new 3,328 sq. ft., zero entry, leisure swimming pool offering a splash pad-like feel with various interactive water play features is the latest addition in the Haines City Parks and Recreation's aquatic inventory.

"We hope this new facility will enhance the quality of life for our community by providing a safe, well-maintained public space while strengthening the connection with the public," said Terrell Griffin, Haines City Parks and Recreation Director.

The Janet J. Smith Aquatic Facility, located in Ben W. Graham Park at 1900 N. 10th Street, officially broke ground on March 9, 2020, and was executed with a budget of approximately $1,835,000. Hydro Solutions Consulting, LLC managed the project, including facility design; construction was completed by Waller Construction, Inc.

The Aquatic Facility will open weekends only mid-April and daily at the school year's conclusion for Polk County Public Schools. Official dates will be released in March 2021. The hours of operation will be 12 Noon – 6 PM. Entry fees will be $3.00 per person; children two years of age and under are free. The facility will offer swim lessons and rental opportunities.

"The community has expressed their desire for an additional aquatic facility for some time, and we are extremely excited to present the completed facility to the Haines City community," said Director Griffin.

The City of Haines City hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Janet J. Smith Aquatic Facility Saturday, November 14, 2020.
