Congressman Scott Franklin, who represents Florida’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress and serves as Chairman of the House Science Committee's Environment Subcommittee, recently posted a series of updates on his official social media account regarding his legislative priorities and community engagement.
On August 25, 2025, Franklin emphasized the subcommittee's commitment to technological advancement for public safety: "As Chairman of @HouseScience's Environment Subcommittee, we’re committed to investing in emerging tech that improves weather forecasting and disaster preparedness, ultimately protecting lives & property nationwide. I look forward to working more w/ my SST colleagues this fall!"
The following day, Franklin marked the anniversary of the Abbey Gate attack during the Kabul evacuation by honoring American service members: "Four years ago, at Abbey Gate, 13 brave American service members made the ultimate sacrifice while saving others during the Kabul evacuation. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. We honor their courage, mourn their loss and pray for their families. " This message was posted on August 26, 2025.
Later that same day, Franklin highlighted local educational achievements in Polk County: "The Polk Education Foundation Renaissance Program highlights student success in academics, attendance and behavior. Grateful for Superintendent Fred Heid and Polk County School Board members who help celebrate these achievements!"
Scott Franklin has served as a member of Congress since 2021 after replacing Ross Spano. Before joining Congress, he served in the Florida House of Representatives. Born in Thomaston, Georgia in 1964 and currently residing in Lakeland, Franklin is an alumnus of both the United States Naval Academy and Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University.
