City Of Lake Wales issued the following announcement on Oct. 01.
Today a ribbon cutting ceremony was held marking the completion of one of the CRA’s Legacy Housing Rehabilitation Program.
Ardella Green, 97 years old and a resident of Lake Wales since 1942, needed repairs to her home on Alabama Street including a new roof. She was referred the CRA for assistance to rehab her home by the Lake Wales Care Center. The roof was replaced, exterior repainted and the soffit and fascia replaced.
Volunteers from the Lake Wales Police Department helped clear out her yard. Students from Roosevelt Academy put a planter in her yard that includes peppers. Aetna was also a sponsor of this project.
Today’s event included congratulatory remarks from CRA Chair Robin Gibson, CRA area Coordinator Darrell Starling, Ed Palmer, Community Liaison Officer from the Lake Wales Police Department, Ray Cruze from Roosevelt Academy and Justin Sharpless.
Mrs. Ardella Green also spoke and thanked everyone involved in this effort.
Mrs. Green has been a homemaker throughout her life. She has been involved in her church Mt. Zion Progressive Baptist Church. She likes to do crafts and is a seamstress. She frequently crochets hats for patients at the Cancer Center. According to one of her nieces Barbara Joiner she has helped raise many kids in Lake Wales.
