City Of Lakeland issued the following announcement on Oct. 31.
PROCLAMATIONS: National Veteran Small Business Week
WHEREAS, Veteran Owned Small Businesses are an economic force in Central Florida; and
WHEREAS, in Florida there are 180,074 Veteran-Owned Businesses generating $57.7 billion in annual sales; and
WHEREAS, Seminole County is home to more than 27,558 veterans, Osceola County has over 17,101 and Polk County has 48,684 per U.S. Census Bureau, and the 2015-2019 American Community Survey 5-year estimates; and
WHEREAS, The Florida Association of Veteran Owned Businesses (FAVOB) has over 300 veteran-owned businesses and patriotic supporters (non-veteran) businesses as members across the state; and
WHEREAS, FAVOB is a non-profit entity that advocates, educates and connects our veteran-owned businesses to economic opportunity; and
WHEREAS, FAVOB and Small Business Administration (SBA) have entered into a Strategic Alliance Memorandum as of October 2020 and the SBA provides support for FAVOB businesses.
