Congressman Scott Franklin has announced his support for the HALT Fentanyl Act, which recently passed in the House of Representatives with a vote of 312-108. The legislation aims to equip law enforcement agencies with enhanced capabilities to combat fentanyl trafficking by permanently classifying fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs.

Franklin stated, "Today, I voted for a commonsense bill to ensure law enforcement are equipped to take down traffickers and keep our communities safe by permanently classifying fentanyl related substances as Schedule I drugs."

He criticized current border policies under President Biden's administration, claiming they have led to increased trafficking activities. "Biden’s disastrous border policies over the last four years encouraged cartels to traffic unprecedented amounts of fentanyl into our country, destroying families and devastating communities," he said.

Florida has been particularly impacted by this issue, according to Franklin. He highlighted efforts by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and his department in executing significant fentanyl busts. "Tragically, few are as affected as Florida, which leads the nation in fentanyl seizures," Franklin noted.

The congressman emphasized the importance of passing the HALT Fentanyl Act for providing necessary tools to law enforcement officers on the front lines. "The HALT Fentanyl Act helps give law enforcement on the front lines the tools they need to keep this poison off our streets and prevent further senseless loss," he stated.

Franklin urged prompt action from the Senate following the House's approval of the measure: "I urge the Senate join the House in swiftly passing this measure."
