Congressman Scott Franklin, representing Florida's 18th district, recently took to social media to share updates on his legislative efforts and recognize important contributions in the healthcare sector. Franklin, who has been serving in Congress since 2021 after replacing Ross Spano, is known for his active engagement in issues affecting veterans and public health.
On May 6, 2025, Congressman Franklin announced that he had "reintroduced the Personnel Integrity in Veterans Affairs Act to close a loophole allowing VA employees under investigation to walk away without a misconduct record." He emphasized that "veterans deserve a VA that holds employees under investigation accountable." This move aims to enhance accountability within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Later that day, at 16:59 UTC, Franklin commemorated National Nurses Day by acknowledging the dedication of nurses. He tweeted about their critical role during crises and everyday care moments: "On National Nurses Day, we recognize the heroes in scrubs who show up with strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication." His message highlighted the invaluable impact nurses have on healthcare systems.
In another post made at 19:44 UTC on the same day, Franklin expressed approval of a recent decision by President Biden. He stated: "Long overdue. Thank you, @POTUS, for ending US funding of gain-of-function research in China and Iran." Franklin stressed that "American taxpayers should never fund dangerous virus experiments in enemy labs," aligning with concerns over national security and ethical research practices.
Scott Franklin was born in Thomaston, Georgia in 1964 and currently resides in Lakeland. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy and Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University, he has also served previously in the Florida House of Representatives before his tenure in Congress.
